I believe another term this dish goes by is Bread and Butter Pudding. As a child, I considered the concept of a pudding made of bread and butter to be most dubious. Then I accidentally had a bite of it once… I have since changed my opinion in a more favorable manner.
Ingredients for French Toast Bake
- 2 cups milk
- ¼ cup butter
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 8 slices bread, broken
Heat the milk and butter together, stirring it on medium heat so it does not scorch. When the butter has melted thoroughly, remove from heat.
Mix together the eggs, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. Add the broken pieces of bread and pour the milk over the mixture. Stir together.
Pour the mixture into a casserole pan. Pour 1½ cups of hot water over the mixture.
Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. You can pour some syrup on top while serving if you wish, but the dish should be sweet enough without it.
It’s seems a rather heavy breakfast, but nothing is too heavy for a relaxing Sunday morning, right? Right!
Mangez bien, riez souvent, aimez beaucoup!
